B&Q is the market leader in China and one of the largest Western retailers in the country. From the opening of its first store in China in 1999 B&Q has developed a strong brand awareness, whilst developing innovative services for customers. These include a full design and decoration service for Chinese apartments, which helps customers transform an empty concrete shell into a stylish home. The recent downturn in the local housing market has impacted performance and a repositioning plan is now underway. This includes rationalising the store portfolio and revamping the remaining stores.
